Work Family Outing: A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village

This is the first weekend I have had off in a month, so I have not had any extra time to update our family blog.  Over Spring Break, I had two days off and we spent one of those days visiting A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village, a children's museum in Salem.  Caden is the perfect age to take new places; he loves getting out of the house and trying new things.

Here are a few photos from our fun day:

Caden loved the museum!

Jenny, Matt, and Juliet met us at the museum which made our day even more fun!

"Snow Day" Fun!

Colby has been wanting to take Caden to The Science Factory.  On Friday, I had a "snow day," so we decided to take a family outing to The Science Factory.  I wasn't sure if Caden would be old enough to enjoy The Science Factory, but right now it has a toy exhibit and he loved it.

Bring on the "snow days"! (Not really. . .we have to make up "snow days" in June.)

"Caden do it!"

Voodoo Doughnut

This week, we finally went to the infamous Voodoo Doughnut! We weren't sure what to expect, but we definitely weren't disappointed.  Caden was so excited to go get a doughnut (even though I don't think he had ever had one?!).  I asked him if he wanted the doughnut with sprinkles and he said, "No! Candy!" So, needless to say, he chose the doughnut covered in miniature M&M's; he's usually not allowed to have candy so that made his day!

I had the best doughnut I have ever had.  It was a chocolate covered doughnut with Chex, pretzels, drizzled with peanut butter, and sprinkled with powdered sugar.  I don't even want to know how many calories it had--it was my breakfast and lunch! We definitely won't be going there often, but it would be a fun place to go during the school year when we have the occasional Monday off as a family.

(Not photographed:  Colby had a maple covered doughnut filled with Bavarian cream which he also loved.)

Our 2nd Fourth of July as a Family of Three

Since Colby had to work on the 4th, we decided to light off some fireworks with Caden on Wednesday night.  Caden was extremely excited about his "(f)ireworks" until he figured out what they did.  After lighting three small fireworks, we decided we should stop lighting fireworks unless we wanted to pay for Caden's therapy later on down the road.  Since Wednesday, he has been telling everyone who does or doesn't mention fireworks, "(F)ireworks-scary-scared-loud-don't like it."

We usually walk to Alton Baker Park to watch the Freedom Festival Fireworks show, but decided that it was a long way to walk if we had to immediately turn around because "someone" was scared to death.  So this year, I didn't think we were going to watch any fireworks.  That was until my oldest kid Hubby came home from work and asked, "What are you doing?!" (Blog snooping. . . ) He was as excited as a little kid, "We can see the fireworks from our house!" So, instead of walking FOREVER (with a toddler who obviously doesn't like "(f)ireworks"), we watched the fireworks from the end of our driveway. . .how perfect?!

I hope everyone had a happy and safe 4th!

February Sunshine

Presidents' Day provided us with some much needed sunshine.  We had a chance to go to our favorite park as a family and play hoops!
