Give More

Last month, our church served the homeless at the WOW Hall by feeding, clothing, and giving them free haircuts. Between having two little ones and working full-time, I do not have much free time, but I was energized by volunteering and was again reminded that if we want our children to give, they need to see us giving. There were children as young as Caden volunteering and I did not even think about taking him. Next time, I want to take him with me. He is beginning to understand that not all people are as fortunate as him and I think it would be a good experience for him.

  1. Cool photo.

When we drop off old stuff at the Goodwill, I remind my daughters that many people only have two or three shirts, and never know when or if they will have the next meal, let alone complain before they even get it.

Now they sometimes volunteer to give things away, "to the people who don't have as much..." Creating empathy in kids is an important part of parenting that I think our generation is failing at imparting.

  2. I agree. We recently switched churches and have been challenged more than ever to be thankful for what we have and to give.
